Think pacific sports programme!

Having the opportunity to go into a Fijian village was amazing let alone meeting my own Fijian family and seeing a true insight into their everyday lives.
I met so many new people and have made friends for life!
I couldn’t recommend this project more, the think pacific team were so helpful and supportive through the entire process.
My university and many other offer funding through funds such as the Turing charity which makes a huge difference to the total price!
Whilst in the village you have the chance to go and explore, we went on morning sunset hikes, up a waterfall and played muddy rugby which was a highlight of my trip.

Pros
  • Making new friends
  • Seeing another culture and living in it
  • Being in fiji! It’s beautiful
Cons
  • You have to leave your Fijian family :(
  • It can be hard to adjust but once you do it’s amazing

One to remember!

My time in Fiji was one of the most rewarding and special memories I have ever made. I made friends and family for life!
I was able to learn so much about the beauty of Fijian culture. I also learnt so much about life through the different perspectives of the Fijian youth! I have been able to incorporate these perspectives into my life in the UK. I would say I have definitely become a more open-minded person because of this experience.

If you have the chance to do this opportunity you really won’t regret it !!!

Pros
  • Discovering culture
  • Gratitude
  • Challenging yourself
Cons
  • Living habits
  • Homesickness

Fantastic opportunity!!

Volunteering this summer with Think Pacific was such a fantastic experience!

Having the opportunity to work in meaningful collaboration with the local community to build a health dispensary taught me a lot about Fijian culture and myself. Living with a Fijian family, along with another volunteer, was an absolute pleasure. They were so happy, warm, and welcoming.

It was incredible to see and experience a different way of life for a month. I would 1000% recommend getting yourself involved and over to Fiji to be a part of this wonderful program.

Pros
  • Immerse yourself in Fijian culture
  • Increase global citizenship & cultural intelligence
  • Contribute to the development initiatives of Fiji
Cons
  • Could be expensive if Uni funding isn't utilised
  • Limited contact to home in the village

The most amazing experience

Words can not explain how amazing my time volunteering in Fiji with Think Pacific was. The village we stayed in was so welcoming and it was a privilege to be able to join their families. I had the best time ever and I will always be grateful I had the opportunity to experience it. I have made life long friends with other volunteers and also now have family on the other side of the world. I would recommend volunteering for Think Pacific to anyone as it was one of the best experiences of my life!

Volunteering in Fiji

Volunteering in Fiji ended up being one of the best experiences of my life. I am truly grateful I had the privilege to be a part of one of the projects. The community in the village are so welcoming, it’s almost as though you never left home in the first place. Not only will the projects provide you with invaluable skills, the memories made on these projects are unforgettable. I highly recommend the projects to anyone who has the means to partake in them and wants to learn more about themselves and other cultures.

Youth Empowerment Project

The time I spent if Fiji was an absolute once in a lifetime experience!
The friendly people, caring culture and family oriented lifestyle, along with the fantastic friendships created are what really makes this volunteering trip so special and unique, let alone the impacts made through the project itself.
I am so grateful for this opportunity from Think Pacific, and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an experience to broaden their horizons and gain new perspectives and outlooks.
Vinaka!

Think Pacific

Volunteering in Fiji through the Think Pacific Programme was truly incredible!

I was fortunate enough to take part in the build project in May 2023. Alongside other volunteers and the Fijian youths we were able to build a health dispensary for the village of Namau!

Those four weeks were an absolute privilege, and I'm so grateful for the once-in-a-lifetime experience.

From immersing yourself in the culture, to gaining a fresh perspective on life and meeting the most amazing people, Think Pacific is an opportunity you definitely don't want to miss!

Utterly incredible

Last month I had the privilege of volunteering in Fiji for 4 weeks! This has all been made possible thanks to Durham University‘s Global Opportunities and the Turing Grant.

We delivered the Mental Health project for Think Pacific, working with 18-35 year olds in Nadovu (a rural village in the highlands of Viti Levu). During the day, TP volunteers led a thematic workshop in the mornings, followed by a culture course led by the Fijian Youth in the afternoon. Some of the sessions were centred around stigma, discrimination and wellbeing, with a strong focus on discussion among our group.

Think Pacific facilitates such a unique exchange of culture, knowledge and life experience which has been utterly incredible to be a part of. I have never felt such love, kindness and generosity, to which I am beyond grateful for my Fijian family and friends. You will be missed so much. The people of Nadovu certainly knew how to dance too!

Vinaka vaka levu Nadovu. Me yacova ni da sota tale (Until we meet again)
