When I left for Thailand for the teaching project as a solo traveller, I never thought those weeks could have such an impact on me. As soon as I arrived, I was welcomed by warm smiles that never made me feel alone: far from it, it immediately felt like home. The local team was always there to support us, providing us volunteers with a safe and cozy environment, giving us the chance to meet warm-hearted people and discover such a fascinating culture. I’ll be forever grateful to IVHQ for this incredible experience!

I think that this experience was very enriching and I loved being with the kids. Getting to know thai culture, Their habits and interests. I loved the city of Hua Hin and his landscape, the other volunteers were very funny and I made some new friends also. This experience will be very useful for my future career since I'm into social studies and I will want to help other people too. This was my first time in a humanitarian project and I'll hope to have the possibility to do similar experiences in the future

I really loved my volunteer experience in Hua Hin, Thailand! The IVHQ team supported me in very step of the process, from the moment I signed up until after my program was over. They answered all my questions and made sure that everything was fine when I was on site.
Their is easy to navigate and you can find all the information you need. There are programs all over the world and you can find what suits your interest. At the end of the program you'll receive a certificate that can help in your resume.

Such an amazing experience. Could not recommend the Thailand team enough, made so many friends! This volunteering opportunity has been one to remember! So awesome I couldn’t express in words how good it was! Absolutely awesome!!! Wish I could’ve stayed longer

It was an amazing experience! Both the impact and the organisation of this volunteering program was incredible. I met a lot of other incredible volunteers and I felt that the teaching program was highly impactful to the local community. The organisation, the staff and the supervisor was extremely helpful. In my freetime I was able to visit Hua Hun or just relax at the accomodation provided. The food at the accomodation was good and typically Thai, giving me a further insight into Thai culture. Highly recommend!

I would choose to volunteer in Hua Hin with IVHQ again in a heartbeat! The organisation prior to my arrival was very straightforward and clear, I knew exactly what to bring and what to expect. Once I arrived in Hua Hin I immediately felt at home, the other volunteers were all so open minded and we formed great bonds in a very short amount of time. The local team was so helpful and happy to have us all and the teaching program was the perfect mixture of volunteering and helping the community swell as still having some free time to explore Thailand!

I was solo traveller and it was very safe. I met couples, friends.. all’s in safety, mission vas interesting, I had free time during afternoon, we could do what we want, solo or with people. There was taxi, or accomodations to go until city, there was variety of local food, IVHQ team was very available, nice. Not the last experience for me!

Life changing experience, honored and truly gratifying for the experience, nothing in my life apart from my children and grandchildren exceeds this beautiful experience.

Our loving and supporting team enjoyed all aspects of the program, meeting people from different countries and cultures will be remembered by me and my family for the rest of my life.

Life time memories forever.

Would this program be suitable for vegans?

Why did you choose this program?

I chose this program as it was close to home and not knowing what to expect, it was the best choice I could make for a 3 week period. I was also intrigued by the Hill Tribe people we were referred to in our literature.

What did your program provider (or university) assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

We were assisted with registration fees, program fees (which we paid), I had to arrange air fares and weekend accommodation

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

I would offer this: go with an open mind and be prepared to immerse yourself into the culture in all areas and you will be greatly rewarded. If you are going to worry too much about sleeping arrangements, what food you may have to eat, and the type of work you are doing, get over it or just don't go. If you are serious about it, embrace it and you will love it.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

An average week could consist of anything you can think of outdoors including building dams, digging roads, renovating old buildings, painting anything that needs painting, exploring the countryside after work, admiring the beauty on the way to and from work, working hard and having fun. Oh and eating beautiful authentic food.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it and/or how did your views on the issue change?

My initial fears were my age and the food I would have to eat. Age went out the window after the first 24 hours as everyone is there for the same reason regardless of age, religion, or gender. Food was a concern as I'm not the best at trying different things so I told myself to eat all that was presented to me and it was absolutely fantastic.

Do you have anything else you'd like to share with prospective volunteers?

If you are prepared to work hard, the local elders are particularly interested to talk to you and find out about you. I met many interesting people who have lived in the hills of Northern Thailand for many many years and they were wonderful and very thankful for the assistance.

If you look at generic websites, you will have no idea of what you are going to do but if you find some heritage somewhere online, you may get a better understanding. I am 55 years old, all other volunteers were under 30 and we loved each other and I left Thailand with a new family in my life.

Embrace the culture, the people, the country but also your peers and you will be amazed.

I am thinking of backpacking and volunteering around the world for 12 months at end of 2017 and I cannot wait, may even take my 23-year-old daughter with me.
