Unreal experience!

Went with IVHQ for my first trip volunteering to Jordan to support women’s empowerment and it was one of the best experiences! From start to finish I was supported by the team and the opportunities whilst there were amazing. I would recommed them to anyone! I had the opportunity whilst there to spen my time exploring Jordan and going to visit sites such as Petra and the Wadi Rum which was amazing! I felt as though I have left an impact there and have helped support important causes for now and the future

Best volunteering experience I could have asked for

The local organisation was very appreciative of our work, both the point of contact and the local students are super engaging, which made our experience memorable.

Our accommodation is also very comfortable so we could feel well rested

We are also given the freedom to design the curriculum so we had a great sense of ownership

The local organiser always checked in on us which made us feel taken cared for. Also I found the city tour a great way to bond with other volunteers of the same batch

The host families are very warm and eager to engage with us. They even took us out to different attractions prior to the commencement of our official program

Pros
  • Great impact
  • Experience the lives of a local
  • Friendship
Cons
  • Travel time

Jordan

The director of Sama Abadía in Mafraq is a weaver of hearts. She weaves together hundreds of volunteers and workers to serve the needs of the Syrian refugees of Zaatari Camp. All the workers are securely in place and filled with glowing optimism. I am so honored to be a tiny fiber in this beautiful tapestry. The director was also my host and provided amazing experiences including amazing food and excursions exploring ancient ruins of the decapolis. The people of Jordan were kind and welcoming. I am so excited to return.

Pros
  • The host families are amazing. Amazing food and hospitality.
  • The program in Mafraq shows great kindness to the Syrian refugees.
  • It is a true emersion into the Jordanian culture.
Cons
  • The excursions were over priced. You can easily book better trips online for a lot less.

IVHQ Jordan

Wow, Jordan is an incredible country. The hospitality of the locals will bring you to tears and melt your heart. I had the opportunity to work with kids and adults who have special needs and it was life-altering and not a day goes by that I don't think about Jordan and the people I met there. I was able to truly understand what it meant to live like a local. Coworkers, acquaintances, and my host family went out with me to get food, buy souvenirs, or explore the city and it opened my eyes to a whole new meaning of what it means to be kind. Jordan stole my heart and I'm sure it will steal yours too if you choose to go to this fascinating country.

Pros
  • -Communication for the local team was excellent
  • -The food that my host family provided me was authentic and incredibly good
  • -Everyone I met went above and beyond to make my experience great
Cons
  • -Sometimes the taxis take advantage of tourists

Open your heart

My volunteer program in Jordan was a big lesson for me as a human being.
Of course I’ve learned so much with this project and a simple review can’t allowed me to describe everything this was for me.
I wish everyone could one day have a chance to do a volunteer program like that. Before my journey I imagined so many things for my stay with the youth In Jordan and I can assure you that the experience itself was way far from my expectations. I want to make a point for you reading this review now : wherever you go just go with your heart open. Sometimes we think we know how to do things or even how better we can do things even not being in our own culture.
If you have an opportunity please GO ! Be open for all different kind of people will bump on your way there , be a good listener , open your heart for all the situation you might challenge while there … then when hopefully you have experienced a bit about what I am talking here maybe you will understand this review a little better .

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Do not think you know better just because you came from a different culture or because you live in a country with better situation than the one you are volunteering for.
