Bridging Building Conservation & Climate in Argyll Scotland
- Scotland
About Program
Travel to Argyll on the west coast of Scotland to learn hands-on building conservation skills. You'll work with master conservator, Eland Stuart, as you help repair the A-listed Thomas Telford bridge, with its arches, gargoyles & eight hexagonal piers. The bridge, built in 1815, provides access to Dunans hunting lodge and "castle". This site was first noted on maps in 1590 and served as home to the Fletcher clan.
Managers of Dunans are also creating a native woodland. Reintroducing native species will increase biodiversity and contribute to ecological sustainability. Funds generated by the sale of carbon offsets will help fund the next phase of conservation of bridge and "castle".
Lodging is in cottages on the shore of Riddon loch, and delicious meals are provided by a local caterer. Excursions take you to remarkable sites on the Cowal peninsula and nearby Hebrides islands. Come for 1 or 2 weeks during our sessions scheduled in April and September.
