Salary / Benefits
Salaries will vary according to your job, hours and location, but will typically be in the 10,000 - 18,000 RMB per month range. All our jobs come with furnished housing or a housing allowance

Most jobs offer flight reimbursement, typically paid at the end of your contract. Health insurance is usually included as well. Given the setup of most schools, you'll often find that lunch is free for teachers, too!

While we are very selective with our partnerships, we have jobs in various locations with different employers, make sure to ask our China team about the exact remuneration package offered by the schools for each of the jobs you might apply to.

Great Opportunity, Great Placement!

I found Footprints through my TEFL Certification provider's (International TEFL Academy) website. I originally applied to an English teaching program in Hong Kong, but after Footprints saw my resume, they immediately suggested I apply to New Pathway education (now part of EIC) in Shanghai instead. Since I was already in Shanghai, this made more sense, and I've had a great experience with New Pathway in all respects.

What would you improve about this program?
Footprints could work to have better relations with their partners' HR departments to ensure timely sending of onboarding materials, but that's difficult to do with Asian companies sometimes.

Yes, I recommend this program

First Time In China & Love it

My thoughts about Footprints Recruiting are nothing but positive. I must say Footprints was always on top of my process, very helpful and honest throughout any concerns I had. I have recommended Footprints and talked highly about it to others who are interested in teaching abroad.

My teaching position with Guan Hua Kindergarten in Foshan has been great. I have been here for 3 months and I have enjoyed every minute of it, Everyone is friendly, helpful and informative about any questions I might have. I feel great being here, love the kids, love teaching everyday to these kids that with a smile make my day. Foshan is a lovely city, the language has been a challenge but fun. Is easy to get around by bus and metro to visit Guangzhou or any other city in China. I have met other foreigners that are also teaching at other schools nearby so it has been a heck of an amazing start of journey.

Teach with Footprints

Footprints got me a job in China and I had a great time. I worked for a school in Guangzhou. I taught maybe 20 hours a week, worked with great people. I was able to explore the area on the weekends.
The school wasn't perfect, and the contract was quite strict, but I was always paid. Sometimes the paycheque would be a day late, a couple times it was a day early.
I really enjoyed working with young learners, I previously taught in Korea and worked with high school students, but greatly preferred working with young students.

What would you improve about this program?
It was difficult to get Footprints Recruiting on the phone before I left.

Footprints Recruiting is a Poor Choice

Footprints is not trustworthy. They promise to place you with responsible schools, but they do nothing to make sure that the schools are actually reputable. Some schools are good, the rest will cheat you either a little or a lot. Good sources for placements are Dave’s ESL Café, Reach To Teach and English First. You deserve a good experience, don’t go with Footprints.

We are very sorry to hear your experience in China was less than pleasant. Footprints is committed to placing great teachers with great schools, and running into issues with schools is unfortunately something that happens from time to time.

Us here at Footprints Recruiting want to stress that we do whatever we can do make sure we don't place teachers in schools that treat their teachers poorly. However, with new schools in China mushrooming all over and with over 6,000 teachers placed by Footprints, unfortunate things may happen. It's unfortunately part of working in a red-hot market with rapid expansion.

It's important to note that the competitors you mention work with the exact same contracts we do, and are in no way worse or better at dealing with situations like this. Dave's ESL Cafe is an important source of applicants for all recruiters, including ourselves. The suggestion made here that Dave's would be "more trustworthy" than any position advertised on the Footprints site is simply false, as all recruiters use it to source applicants.

We encourage all teachers who experience issues with their employer to contact us directly and see what we can do to help. We are always willing to help, but can't always work magic - after all, you signed a contract with the school and we make applicants aware that the agreement is between you and the school only.

I vividly remember when I stepped off the plane in Brazil for the first time. Brazil is a country that has always captivated me. I had been reading about the country's cities and history, and learning the language for years. Of course, books, documentaries, and language apps are barely the tip of the iceberg. Speaking Portuguese to a Brazilian in Brazil for the first time, and having him understand me, was one of the greatest thrills of my life.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

There is so much more to teaching abroad than simply applying for an interesting job and booking a flight. In order to obtain an entry visa and legal work permit to teach abroad, each country has its own regulations and policies, and it has become a fascination of mine to understand these processes around the world. In fact, I have recently completed the coursework toward obtaining my Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultancy license. This means that before the end of 2019, I will be licensed to advise people seeking to immigrate to Canada.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

How about from a non-returning teacher?

I assisted a teacher with securing a job in Korea in 2015. He decided to stay for second year as he was learning the language and wanted to become fluent. As his Korean kept improving, he stumbled into a role as an extra for a Korean drama. This lead to a couple of small speaking roles, which eventually lead to him staying in Korea as a regular TV personality. He still there on TV, as far as I know.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

We work with a very small public school district located along the west coast of Alaska in a very remote area of the state accessible only by air. While the focus of Footprints since day one has been clearly set on helping teachers obtain great international teaching jobs, there is something that I find incredibly interesting about a domestic opportunity that provides much of the draw of traveling abroad. This program offers licensed teachers from the United States an opportunity to earn a great salary, while experiencing the local culture of rural Alaska. I am not a licensed teacher, nor am I American, but if I could take part in this program, I wouldn't think twice.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Footprints is always adapting and evolving. Recent challenges have arisen in Asia where a BIG shift has been taking place, specifically the emergence of China as a destination for teachers. A major point of pride for Footprints in addressing the concerns stemming from China's incredible demand for native English speaking teachers is that we are very particular with who we partner with. Prospective teachers can be assured that Footprints is not trying to just fill as many jobs as possible with any old school in China. We are building relationships with a select number of reputable organizations that we trust.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

Footprints has adapted to many trends and changes over the years. As programs are introduced, grow, change direction, and in many cases, eventually end, we have done our best to stay on top of everything. We always try to make sure that we have excellent opportunities to offer our adventurous teachers.
