Absolutely unrivalled service from Korean Horizons

I could not recommend Alistair and Korean Horizons more if you are looking to get into the EPIK programme. His level of knowledge and expertise is unparalleled and he answered all of my questions (both legit and silly) very promptly and professionally. I always felt that I was in safe hands and guided through the process - and given how complicated a lot of the paperwork is I think I would have struggled hugely without Korean Horizons helping along the way. The practice interview was particularly helpful too. Would highly recommend.

Pros
  • Great advice
  • Practice interviews
  • A huge amount of support for what can feel like a very intimidating bureaucratic process
Cons
  • No cons, Alistair was great. This review is of KH, not EPIK for reference.

A once in a lifetime opportunity.

If you are looking to travel abroad and are thinking of going to South Korea to teach English, then I thoroughly suggest using Korean Horizons to help you achieve that goal. The support they provide is incredible. Any question I had, they answered. Any documentation I required, they helped me get. My placement into a school in Korea took me ages because of how much I struggled getting paperwork together from my home country but Korean Horizons were understanding, patient and helped whenever they could. Korean Horizons also goes out of their way to ensure that you have the best possible experience when coming to Korea. They help you set up your new life when you arrive and link you with the online community so that you can make new friends, wherever you may be in Korea.

Pros
  • Incredibly helpful support staff
  • Great job benefits
  • Vibrant and friendly ex-pat scene
Cons
  • Culture shock on arrival

Great programme

Applying for EPIK via Korean Horizons was the best decision I ever made. It made the whole process a lot easier. The support given by Alistair was invaluable. He supports you throughout the process, from the application process to interviews, and moving to Korea. When arriving in Korea, he arranged for accommodation and even taught us how to use the train system. I really appreciated how Korean Horizons really held my hand throughout the whole process and I would recommend Korean Horizons to anyone.

Best Decision Ever

Going through Korean Horizons was the best decision I could have made. The first time I applied to EPIK I really struggled with the timing of getting my documents and ultimately, that was why I didn't pass the process. With Alistair, I was able to take my time getting my documents and get help along the way. He gave me so much support and feedback along the way. I truly would not have successfully done this alone because there's SO MUCH to consider that I had no clue how to do.
On top of that, Alistair coodinated hotels for the first night, taught me how to buy train tickets, and met us all at the airport. And it was free to go through KH. I genuinely can't imagine carry the stress alone if you don't have to. I'm so grateful and you will be too.

Pros
  • Support and Feedback
  • Step by Step Instructions
  • A Warm Welcome on the First Day

Applying for the Epik program through Korean Horizons is honestly the best decision you can ever make!!! This whole process of relocating to another country for a job is a lot of work. And to have someone on your team looking out for you eases the process along!!! Also someone to answer all your possible questions!!!! Because trust me, you’ll have plenty and no question is too big or too small.

I’ve heard from close friends how going through this has changed them. And I’m hoping for the same for me lol!!

  • Safety 10/10

EPIK through Korean Horizons

Hi! To everyone considering teaching in Korea through the EPIK program I heavily recommend going through Korean Horizons.
The support the agency gave me throughout my entire application was phenomenal: from applying to EPIK, interviewing, sorting out the necessary documents, general inquiries, down to arriving in Korea and getting to orientation successfully; Korean Horizons helped every step of the way.
Their help made my application and success seamless and as pain-free as it could possibly be.

I ended up in a rural town in Gyeongsangbuk-do. However, don't let the word 'rural' scare you from the job. While the town does not have everything a major city would, living here is very comfortable and beautiful. There are plenty of restaurants, clothing stores, convenience stores and friendly people that make staying here very nice. I've only been here a couple days and I already feel welcome and at home (of course with the help of the other EPIK teachers who took me under their wing when I arrived).

The only flaw I can think of when it comes to the EPIK program so far is that if you have a strong preference for where you live, you might find yourself disappointed. You do not really get a choice in your placement - you can give your preferences but that does not necessarily mean that will happen; especially if you want to live in a major city. However, fret not. Public transport here is affordable and accessible so traveling and weekend get-aways are definitely on the cards if you end up in an area you wouldn't have preferred to have been placed.

I would love to write more but as of now I have only been here a couple days. On a final note I would like to say that everyone is welcoming and kind - the teachers at my school, the other EPIK teachers in the area as well as the orientation staff. Genuinely one of the best experiences of my life so far! I hope you can have a great experience too if you decide to give this a shot.

Pros
  • Very friendly and helpful people
  • Everything is very beautiful and well kept
  • A stress free experience
Cons
  • The food at orientation was not very good...
  • Apartments are dirty on arrival - be prepared to buy cleaning materials day 1
  • Living in a rural area can be difficult if you don't speak korean

The number 1 agency

Korean Horizons helped me in so many ways that I can never imagine. I believe that if it wasn't for them I would never have been accepted into the Epik program. Alistair made sure that I submit an application of high quality and standards, and he also helped me navigate how to answer questions in the interview. Upon arrival at the airport, he was there to take us to the hotel so that we can rest for one night , free of charge. If you would like to apply to teach in South Korea, please do not hesitate to contact Korean Horizon, they will help you with everything you need.

Hey Paul - we did some research and it looks like the salary is controlled by the government, and there are pay grades. Appreciate the question, surely others are wondering too
