Amazing experience

I loved being a volunteer at the Turtle Conservation in Nusa Penida. The staff was really helpful and easy to work with. I was able to learn a bit more about sea turtles, I did my best to help with the work in the conservation (cleaning the tanks and feeding the turtles) as well as beach cleaning and finally release our lovely friends back into the sea. There was a good balance between the work and the free time I used to explore the island and I was able to take a Friday off to spend the weekend in the Gili islands too.I made many friends and I felt I was giving back to the environment and the community. I would definitely recommend the experience to anyone.

Pros
  • Fulfilling
  • Environment friendly
  • Easy to socialise

I had such an amazing experience and got the chance to meet some great people. I also feel good that I was able to contribute to something like this and make a difference in the world.I would love to do something like this again. I was able to learn about the culture as well and all their amazing traditions and rituals. I got the opportunity to do something good while also being able to explore and see new things. This is definitely something I’d want to do again and I definitely recommend it was beautiful.

Bali Construction/Renovation Volunteering Project

Bali is growing at a rapid pace and so infrastructure is struggling to keep up with the demands of population growth.

As part of a construction/renovation volunteer group in Bali I just had the opportunity to design and sketch free hand a mural for the entrance to a new kindergarten. This was particularly challenging because no modern tools were available. Our group then painted and completed the wall in record time.

In this way I was not only able to see the step by step visible difference but also to support the local project which serves low-income communities.
I am truly thankful for this great opportunity and the chance to grow professionally and personally and also immersing myself in balinese culture.

Sea Turtle Conservation - Nusa Penida

The coordinators on the island of Nusa Penida are absolutely amazing, they're so helpful if you have any questions, they're so so passionate about what they do and they love to share their knowledge if you just ask them, they're so understanding if you're just really not feeling well and need some rest, they're super flexible and willing to work with you if you need to change anything around a little bit, they're just so kind and I couldn't think of any other people who could do their job better than they do. On top of that they're super skilled in what they do and they take their jobs seriously and get things done, and done well, but they're also super hilarious and rather than strict bosses, they're like friends who you can joke around with.

As for other Green Lion staff on Bali, they were very good and got things coordinated as needed and were well organized.

Overall no issues with anyone or anything aside from some a little bit rude program-mates, but that's nothing on IVHQ or Green Lion.

Pros
  • The coordinators
  • The sea turtles obviously
  • The friends I made
Cons
  • My first pair of roomates
  • I got really sick for an entire week
  • I little bit sketchy walking at night

IVHQ Bali

My son and I were able to work together on renovations on a school in UBud. We were able to see the direct impact of our work and the results within the community as we were able to make friends within the community. We were able to experience a festival that spanned several days, and were treated like family by the community. Our accommodations were clean and welcoming, and the local staff was always kind and approachable. The food was delicious and there was always plenty to go around. The other volunteers and the staff welcomed my younger son and made him a little brother to them. He was able to make friends for life among the volunteers, staff, and local kids. It was a supportive, safe, and immersive experience that we will not soon forget.

Pros
  • Friendly people
  • Culture
  • The most beautiful places on earth
Cons
  • Traffic
  • Narrow roads
  • Beware of the monkeys in the monkey forest

Turtle conservation, Bali 6weeks

Turtle conservation Bali for 6 weeks
I truly had an incredible time at the turtle conservation project in Bali for 6weeks. The information IVHQ provided me with before the programme was sufficient and accurate which made arriving a lot less stressful. I have met some amazing people and learnt so much about different cultures. The cordinators here i will never forget they love a good laugh and are so friendly and helpful. The Island is beautiful expect like we were told there isn’t much here but it adds to the whole experience. The turtle release at the end of the project was definitely a highlight as it is a product of our care we gave the turtles. This is an experience i will treasure forever.

Pros
  • Turtle and sea life experience
  • culture and island life
  • friends for life
Cons
  • not as much to do in weekends

Experience at Bali - Ubud for Turtle conversation program

The people who organised it made the experience. Received all the support I could find along with a great bunch of volunteers. The program has made a significant and positive impact on the welfare and conservation of turtles (Bali Turtle Conservation Program). I feel valued and motivated by the impact we are making, which leads to higher levels of commitment and enthusiasm. The program maintains transparent and open communication with volunteers. I would recommend it to others and definitely to help out and make new friends.

Pros
  • Ethical Practices
  • Community Engagement
  • Fun
Cons
  • Time - Schedule

My Experience in Ubud, Bali

my experience in Ubud Bali as part of the environmental education project went wonderfully well. I felt surrounded from start to finish by my program manager and then by the local team on site. I was taken care of as soon as I arrived at the airport which was very reassuring. The volunteer house was clean, big, and I made a lot of friends there. I enjoyed eating the local dishes during my two weeks of volunteering. As for the project, I took pains to build constructive lessons for the children. I enjoyed meeting them and spending time with them. they taught me a lot and I hope I also taught them things about the environment. I am sure to do a volunteer trip again in my next few years, moreover it strengthens my professional practice because I am a socio-cultural animator in Switzerland.

Pros
  • Meet people
  • Discover a new culture
  • Take time with children
Cons
  • far away if you’re home sick
  • you have to get used to the habits of the country
  • you can get sick from food and water

Questions & Answers

It depends on where you are going and how long you are staying. For Indonesia, you do not need one if you are staying less than 30 days.

In Ubud, the total fees will be at least US$1,979. You can opt to pay for more flexibility if you like too :)
