About Program

Spend a J-Term, summer, semester or academic year in Paris, France with AIFS Abroad! You’ll earn up 3- 17 credits per term studying at the Institut de Langue et de Culture Françaises (ILCF), a department of the Catholic University of Paris. Courses are taught in English and French with no previous French language study required.

AIFS Abroad can help you arrange local volunteer opportunities with charities and organizations such as Les Restos du Coeur, which distributes food to the homeless.

You’ll enjoy cultural and social activities including:
• Guided city walks
• Visits to the many museums and cultural sites of Paris
• Opera and ballet performances
• A half-day trip to the famous Château de Versailles.
An optional, 2-day trip to Normandy and Brittany is also available. A 2-night tour of London, England, is included for students on the AIFS Flight Package.

I arrived in Paris not knowing if I made the right choice, however that instantly changed my mind once I realized the endless memories I was making. The AIFS staff was there to help 24/7 no matter the time in day. My professor was amazing! We got to explore more of the city and discover the rich history of Paris. The locals were amazing in assisting my classmates and myself whenever we needed directions or extra guidance. My homestay was close to my school and to the AIFS office. Within a short walk, I was able to get things done whether it was to go to the market, Downtown Paris, or just wonder around.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?

One thing I would change for myself would be I would take more pictures of everything! I took a lot, however I wished I took more to live up the memories more while I am here in the U.S.

AIFS Paris is a great program that I would highly recommend. The Paris staff was excellent and made sure everything ran smoothly. AIFS does an excellent job with host family placements as well. ILCF was great. The teachers were very helpful, and by the end of the semester, I could tell I had made a lot of progress.

Obviously, Paris is amazing. But it would have been less amazing without the support of AIFS. They set me up in an amazing homestay in the 14eme, helped me register for all of my classes, planned opportunities to fully expose us to Paris, and overall added to the amazing time I had in Europe and ultimately, abroad.

What would you improve about this program?

The Paris program is different because there are two schools that students attend through AIFS. The Sorbonne and ILCF kids didn't get to know each other extremely well because we arrived at different times in Paris. Our activities included both schools, though!

Is it free to study there ? Can I choose if I want to stay alone in a student residence?

With our programs, you will need to pay the program fee, which would cover your tuition, a meal plan, insurance, cultural & social activities, excursions, and on-site staff. Why did you decide to study abroad with AIFS Study Abroad in Paris?

Corianna: I studied abroad with AIFS because when I was torn between different companies. I eventually picked AIFS because my mom had studied with them while she was in College. I also went on one of their programs in high school. I had a very enjoyable trip in high school and they offered a family incentive. I soon found out that AIFS was all inclusive, they took care of everything for me: meals, excursions within Paris, and my homestay.

Describe your favorite must-have food!

Corianna: My must-have food I tried abroad are now my food lifestyle. I can’t help but buy a french cheese every time I pass the cheese section in the grocery store. Other than that: cod in Portugal, paella in Spain, raclette in Switzerland, escargots and pates in France, fish and chips in England, feta cheese in Greece, bratwurst in Germany, bitterballen in The Netherlands, and squid ink pasta in Italy.

Tell us about any interesting cultural tidbits you noticed about your country.

Corianna: You can’t help but not fall in love with French culture. From the markets that are open daily where you can get fruits, vegetables, baguettes and flowers to the cafes that always have people sitting enjoying an espresso, Paris is a vibrant city. Things I noticed in Paris: people walk--everywhere, wine is frequently enjoyed with meals, parks are always crowded, little kids speaking French is the sweetest sound your ears will ever hear.

Where was your best photo taken and what was it of?

Corianna: My favorite photos abroad were taken on my iPhone during daily life. I loved noticing small details in antiquated houses, seeing a bumble bee yellow mailbox sticking out of a limestone wall, walking through a park when I saw an elderly couple holding hands, or of the perfectly baked baguette I picked up from the boulangerie.

Did you run into a language barrier while studying abroad?

Corianna: The French language is beautiful, but difficult. You will definitely be able to get around without knowing French, but you won’t get very far. It is important to learn the language, anyways, why wouldn’t you want to? Many words are derived the French language so it shouldn’t be hard to get a handle on!
