University of Sydney: Study Abroad Program

Due to Covid-19 this wasn't the normal study abroad experience - nonetheless it was an amazing experience. The academic level at Usyd is very high and the professors are some of the best I've had the chance to work with in my academic career. There are plenty of units to choose from and I've found the curriculum in the units I chose to be interesting and challenging. The workload was higher in some units than I expected but it was definitely manageable. The thing I found most difficult was definitely group work across time zones, cultures and varying levels of English capabilities. Most of the exchange students were studying virtually from their home countries due to Covid-19 keeping the Australian borders closed, making it difficult to coordinate group work. The Study Abroad team that helps you navigate USyd during your studies are some of the kindest and most supporting people I've ever met. Throughout the semester the Study Abroad team arranged several events for the exchange students to connect and learn about the Australian culture. I would recommend attending as many of these events as you can as it's a chance to connect with fellow students, learn about the Australian culture and give yourself a break from studying. All in all, I would definitely recommend doing an exchange semester at USyd.

I participated in this undergraduate program in University of Sydney for a year(semester 2 2020 and semester 1 2021). It has been a great experience for me. I especially appreciate the excellent academic ambiance and genial proffesors here. Although it has been a virtual exchange due to the pandemic, the exchange officers would make every efforts helping us to get to know each other through various activities online. They are very kind and nice and would respond to students' questions promptly. Students could enjoy their study here in USYD.

I had a virtual experience, which is very different to a physical one, so what I'm writing should be taken with a pint of salt. The professors were good and tried to make it a memorable experience. The best experience was the BP project were you got to be very hands on, working with the client, and get sort of real life experience.

However, the overall student level was quite low and I think we were only five people who contributed in class. I think it had a lot to do with cultural differences. Being from Denmark, we're encouraged to speak our minds and engage a lot with our professors, also question and criticise if we do not agree. Half of the cohort were from China and it is obvious that they are taught very differently, participating very little in class. This is especially evident in an online environment where all you see are the ones that speak up.

My experience was unique because everything online is different. Getting up at 4 in the morning to follow my lessons was difficult at the beginning but in the end it allowed me to gain in productivity, at all levels. I am no longer the same because I have a different vision of the use of the 24 hours that can be used in a day. Also, I met people from all over the world and I am happy to have received the support of my tutor to make such a great project a success! Thank you for everything, that was amazing!

I loved Sydney and studying at the University! It was an amazing time! Sydney is a great place and the Uni is really supportive and strong. I felt really safe in the city and public transit is great. There are a ton of travel opportunities. I highly recommend it!

I had the best experience at the University of Sydney studying abroad. My favorite part of my time there was living at one of the residential colleges on campus, St. John's. I got to live with 250 Australians and it really gave me a fully immersive experience. I highly recommend that anyone who is considering studying abroad at the University of Sydney apply to live in one of the residential colleges because it will absolutely be the highlight of your time in Sydney.

The city of Sydney itself is easily the best place to study abroad in Australia. Because Australia is a huge country, it is not so easy to travel as it might be if you were to study abroad in Europe. So unless you are made of money, you're not going to be able to travel to a different city every weekend. But, there is so much to do in Sydney you will never feel like you're missing out. The public transportation is great and from USYD's campus you can easily take a bus to the beach or downtown where you can then catch a ferry to so many different areas of the city. The food is also incredible with so much great international cuisine as well as a to die for cafe culture.

The classes overall at USYD are manageable, but not easy. You won't have many mandatory hours of class as all of the lectures are recorded and available to watch online which makes it easy to miss class and travel.

I definitely suggest studying abroad at University of Sydney! It is a blast!! Sydney is an incredible city, with beautiful beaches, a great social scene and fantastic food. Plus, the campus looks like Hogwarts!!
