About Program
Since 2005 when this sanctuary was founded, it has grown to become Romania’s epicentre for the care and rescue of brown bears and one of the largest bear sanctuaries in Europe. This project began as one woman’s dream to save just three bears from a cramped cage, and since then the project has rescued over 70 bears from horrific conditions across the country. Even though the practise of keeping bears in such poor conditions is illegal, the Romanian authorities had nowhere for rescued bears to go until the sanctuary opened. Now the bears that are rescued are given the chance to live in huge forested enclosures and engage in natural behaviours.
Located in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, you will spend your days in the forest. You will be helping by preparing food and monitoring the bears, assisting with sanctuary tours and any other conservation tasks There are few if any other places in Europe where you will get to aid brown bears, so what are you waiting for?
