review of summer school in UCL 2023

For academic knowledge, from the perspective of a year two undergraduate student, the knowledge taught in the program might seem too vague and general without enough specific and professional knowledge. However, the interactive atmosphere and explosive emotion in this class are fantastic, classmates talk about whatever they want to share and I indeed learned a lot of new ideas from it communication in English helped improve my spoken English remarkably.
food in London comes from different countries and I tried several really taste good.
Life there is colorful, we even have a boat party on the last day which is really enjoyable!

Pros
  • interactive communication atmosphere in class
  • inclusive environment about different ideas and clutures
  • case study and related games are interesting and beneficial
Cons
  • the transport in London is inconvenient and expensive
  • use cash only in London is troublesome
  • my dormitory is really far away from my classroom(0.5 mins walk distance)

UCL Is My Second Home!

I am so sad that this program is either 3 or 6 weeks because time goes by so quickly. I am so glad I chose UCL as my destination to study abroad! The course was challenging but enriching for a three-week module. I would even go as far as to say that I rather prefer how professors teach in the UK rather than the US because we went to the Commonwealth and the IMO. I never got to experience these kinds of things which makes this an enriching and fruitful experience for me. Thank you, UCL, for a wonderful experience! You made me want to research Master's programs in London!

Pros
  • Challenging
  • Meeting New People
  • Experiencing London
Cons
  • Social Program Limit
  • Short Time
  • Class Everyday

The best summer of my life!

Living in London for 6 weeks has been the greatest experience in my life. Everything happens so suddenly, unexpectedly and full of surprise. It is like a movie, really. I was walking in a park and met a group of students from UCL, the next moment we were bar hopping around the city. I have met a lot of wonderful friends, most of them just by coincidence. The summer course exposes me to many cultures different from my own. It just baffles me to watch the way each student communicates, carries on with his/her daily life and relaxes, and I love it so much to be able to see how each culture interacts with one another!

Pros
  • Culture is amazing, socialising is always smooth as butter
  • Made life-long friends
  • The city is full of life and wonderful architectures
Cons
  • It's a little dangerous at night

Fantastic Experience

The overall experience was unreal! From modules and campus to the city and UCL staff.
Really amazing how everyone is really friendly and they’re from everywhere around the globe !
Amazing experience.
All the professors where really prepared and the modules were perfectly timed for the period we were there. Campus is really close to the main London attractions so it comes handy to visit places after class or during the weekends.
Staff were also great at organising field trips and events all over London.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
Literally nothing, everything was excellent !!!!!!

Great way to experience living in London!

I was at the UCL Summer School 4 years ago and I used it as an opportunity to see what it would be like to live and study in London. I still look back on the experience fondly. I studied the Understanding and Countering Radicalisation and Terrorism module (a mouthful, I know) which was very engaging. We were taught by a wide range of experts and academics. And we also had the opportunity to attend a conference at the British Library. The other students were fun - I'm still in touch with a number of them till today. I would definitely recommend!

It was a wonderful journey here. We had five classes a week, each for three hours. There was enough time for digesting what had been taught in the class. Also, I explored London on the three weekends and joined some social programmes to make new friends.

My programme was Entrepreneurship. We learned how to evaluate a business opportunity and how to create a feasible one. All those knowledge were put into practice. By finishing an independent essay and groupwork, I exercised those knowledge and learned it by my heart. I may apply those knowledge in later daily life.

The London adventure was amazing as well. I visited several famous spots, such as Big Ben, River Thames, etc. Scenery there was beautiful. London combines contemporary fashion style with old European architecture style. You could sit on the bench under big leafy trees, seeing the long River Thames waving fiercely. You could witness the magnificent building of White House. You could have a walk in the Hyde Park, watching geese and ducks playing beside the lake together. Also, the location of our classroom was at a business street, where there were lots of modern caffee houses and restaurants. You can feel the prosperity of London there.

Diversity of this programme was unbelieveable. There were 52 nationalities in the two sessions of UCL summer school. Here I made some new friends with different backgrouds. We exchanged our culture and tradition. Also, I encoutered students from different universities in my home country. We keep in touch with each other after we came back home. Those friends expand my world.

All in all, I will never forget this London jounery as well as the learning experience here. I had a crush on it the first day I came here. It is definitely worth trying, otherwise you may regret!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
It was the final presentation. I felt nervous about my part of presentaion and had some doubts on our groupwork. Finally, I just went ahead and relaxed myself. Surprisingly, our presentation was the best one.

Summer at UCL

UCL Summer School was a great experience for me. The academic side of the course is taught by brilliant professors, the campus is right in the middle of London and the friends you meet come from all around the world. Moreover, ever since I returned to Mexico, I have received so many opportunities regarding the field of studies I explored in UCL. I had a lot of fun, met amazing people and would definitely recommend this course for anyone who wishes to have an international experience in a top 10 world-ranked university.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I only spent about a week in the library. I wish I had started visiting it earlier, its fantastic.

An Unforgettable Experience

I had a great time studying at UCL last year. First of all, the lecturer is humorous and knowledgeable. Her explanations are rich in content and interactive. The lecture content structured pretty well and easy for people to learn, even for those who has no previous background. Also, everyone in the class were pretty active. The social activities held by UCL are interesting from operas and movies to day trips, which take us to know all aspects of London and Britain. The staff are very friendly and you can ask them any questions. In this program, not only did I learn a lot of knowledge, but also made a lot of friends. I really had a great summer in London.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Do not be nervous, the university staff and lecturers are friendly. You will enjoy a good summer!
